Action Laval's distinctive approach

Our priorities

Leading a municipality the size of Ville de Laval requires more than knowledge of a wide range of issues. First and foremost, you need to know how to support a team with the ideas, expertise and broad experience to come up with innovative solutions. You have to have the humility to listen to good ideas, whether they come from citizens, another municipality, a fellow councillor or even a political opponent. That's why it's essential to listen to everyone's ideas to move our municipality forward for the benefit of all.

It is with this philosophy that we want to give power back to the councillors. They must resume their role of listening to the population so that it finds its voice at the City Council meetings, as well as in the various committees. What's more, by decentralizing the administration and making it more accountable, and by involving residents in the decisions that affect them, we want to reconnect the administration with the reality that residents experience daily.

The City of Laval was born of the union of several municipalities that were part of its territory before the merger. These communities are still part of Laval's urban fabric, and many of the districts take their names from them. At a time when cities are trying to invent a neighbourhood life, Laval's history is rooted in this reality, although efforts have been made to attenuate it. Rather, we are proposing to give them their proper place again and to encourage harmonious development, with a healthy approach to the environment, without denying our economic development.

To this end, what we are proposing is to take our city back into our own hands.

As environmental issues become increasingly important, they affect the lives of citizens in many ways that are directly related to municipal duties.

As far as possible, we need to bring decision-making as close to the people as possible.

As far as possible, we must bring administrative decision-making closer to the people.

Transport as a whole should be at the heart of municipal thinking, both in its active mobility aspects and in its mass transport initiatives.

It is unacceptable that Laval residents should have to travel to neighbouring municipalities to obtain services.

Our municipality has to be much more dynamic and proactive if it is to regain control of its citizens' safety.

Year after year, the city's most problematic issue is the management of its snow clearance and the parking that goes with it.
