Frédéric Mayer

Mayoral candidate

A native of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, Frédéric Mayer spent his early years biking the streets of Duvernay and Val-des-Arbres. Whether it was soccer, baseball or swimming, his summer memories were created at the Centre de la Nature. In winter, he continued his swimming lessons at his high school, Collège Laval. Whenever he wasn’t in the water, he could be found on the ice at the Colisée de Laval (then known as the Centre sportif Laval), playing field hockey or figure skating with the CPA Laval. In Sainte-Rose, opposite Parc de la Renaissance, he bought his first home in his early adulthood. His taste for adventure and cultural discovery then took him to China, where he lived for 4 years. On his return to Quebec, he began his political journey as an assistant to a federal Member of Parliament. He and his spouse decided to settle in Auteuil with their two sons. Frédéric Mayer has also completed a master’s degree in management of international relations. While working for Services Canada and Elections Canada, he completed a thesis on relations between Canadian provinces and China.

In 2009, he began to get involved in the Laval community, working with David De Cotis, the current Saint-Bruno city councillor, to set up the Mouvement lavallois. He was responsible for the party’s organization and communications. From 2014 to 2016, he held the position of Director of Mouvement Lavallois’ Office of Elected Officials.

Seeking new challenges, he joined Nanogrande, a high-tech startup specializing in the development of additive manufacturing devices (3D printers), where he worked in operations and marketing management. At the same time, he completed his doctoral thesis on non-coercive means of influencing other states and obtained his doctorate in public administration from ÉNAP. David De Cotis, following his departure from the party he had founded, turned to Frédéric to organize Action Laval’s 2021 election campaign. Frédéric Mayer is now Deputy Director of the Action Laval cabinet. Determined to take action to ensure that Laval finally regains its pride and develops an identity of its own, he announced in February 2025, with the support of the Action Laval caucus, that he would run for mayor of Laval. He intends to draw on his experience as an administrator in both the private and public sectors, as well as his doctoral training at the École nationale d’administration publique, to take control of the city's finances.
