THE MANAGEMENT OF DOMESTIC ANIMALS IN LAVAL: THE IMPROVISATION OF MAYOR DEMERS
The mayor attacks you, the pet owners – this is nonsense !
– Robert Bordeleau
Laval, July 19th, 2017 – At the municipal council meeting on July 4th, Action Laval – Équipe Jean-Claude Gobé’s candidate in Fabreville, Robert Bordeleau, denounced Mayor Demers’ inaction on the establishment of an Animal center in Laval, – as well as the new regulation to introduce a tax for animal owners.
The Mayor of Laval made the first announcement to create the animal center during the previous election campaign in 2013. In 2014 the mayor made another commitment that it would be created by 2015, postponed it to 2016, and later announced once again 2017, that it would be completed by 2018 – with no results.
“The mayor committed to the creation of an animal center to better administer pets in Laval in 2013, and since then he has been multiplying ads and took refuge behind excuses for not taking action. I have the impression that the mayor, in terms of pets, simply does not intend to act. The mayor ignores the owners and their animals. ” denounced the candidate of Action Laval in Fabreville.
About Regulation L-12430 – Domestic animal regulation
Regulation L-12430 imposes taxation on domestic pet owners while introducing police management of pets. In addition to the identification medal that was already a common practice, the mayor charges you to sterilize your animals, to install a microchip.
It should be noted that the committee mandated to write the regulations was chaired by Dr. Joël Bergeron, President of Ordre des médecins vétérinaires du Québec. We question the real motives of the doctor, since no citizen was consulted and since all the veterinarians he represents find a clear economic interest in the adoption of this piece of regulation.
We are also wondering where the mayor was when citizens asked to be heard on this regulation.
A reminder of the position of Action Laval’s leader on the regulation for domestic animals.
“In the first 100 days of my term as mayor, I will abolish the by-law and make a new one, better suited to the situation of Laval’s pet owners. “Adds Jean-Claude Gobé, Leader of the Official Opposition and leader of Action Laval.
We invite every citizen of Laval to sign our petition ! :
