Laval, September 29th, 2017 – The leader of Action Laval and candidate for mayor Jean-Claude Gobé commits to gender parity for his executive committee.

Mr. Gobé has 10 women out of a total of 21 candidates: “I promised to present as many women as men in my team, it was a firm commitment that I had taken with Laval electors and women’s rights groups. We are the only Laval municipal party to propose gender parity in our team. ”

“We supported and proposed the creation of Laval’s Women Council and are in favor of gender balance in municipal decision-making structures: the logical consequence of our announcement of parity within the Action Laval team is our commitment to parity within the executive, “said Jean-Claude Gobé.

According to the Institut de la Statistique du Québec, nearly 51% of Laval residents are women: “It is time for this reality to be reflected in our municipal institutions. This is a priority for me, ” he added

“It is abnormal that more than the majority of the residents of Laval are women and that they represent less than 30% of the municipal council. It is urgent to act in the interest of women and all Laval residents. It is for this reason that I have surrounded myself with experienced and dedicated collaborators for the benefit of all Laval residents. It’s time for Laval’s administration to reflect all citizens,” he says.

Towards a Women’s Council of Laval

Aglaia Revelakis, councilor of Chomedey, reminds us of her proposal in June for the creation of the Council of Laval. “Marc Demers once again refused a project which should have seen the light immediately, Laval needs its Women’s Council,” she says.

It should be noted that the proposal tabled by Revelakis to the municipal council comes from repeated requests from TCLCF, whose members led an information campaign on which she participated ; “It was a pleasure for me to talk about my role as a councilor in Chomedey and to encourage my fellow citizens to take part in the Laval democratic process,” concluded the candidate in Chomedey.
